Why Choose Evans Street Dental for Implant Dentures?

What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures combine the stability of dental implants with the convenience of dentures. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically inserted into the jawbone, acting as artificial tooth roots. Once placed, they fuse with the bone to provide a sturdy foundation for a denture that won’t slip or shift. This creates a more natural-looking, comfortable, and functional smile compared to traditional dentures that rest on the gums. Depending on your needs, we may recommend one of two types of implant dentures during your consultation.

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed implant dentures, sometimes called a “hybrid prosthesis,” are designed to stay in place and can only be removed by a dentist. Typically, four to six implants are strategically placed in the jawbone to permanently secure a full denture. Many patients choose this option because it feels and functions just like natural teeth. However, it does require adequate jawbone density.

Removable Implant Dentures

Removable implant dentures, or “Snap-On dentures,” attach to implants using clips (bar-retained) or ball sockets (ball-retained). Patients can remove them at home for daily cleaning, but they remain secure during everyday activities. These typically require only two to five implants and less jawbone density, making them an excellent choice for patients with less bone volume.

The Implant Denture Process

Dr. Ramsey is capable of completing the dental implant process here at our office. Your journey starts with a consultation and any necessary preliminary treatments, such as tooth extractions or bone grafting. Once you’re ready, your implants will be placed into the jawbone. Over the next several months, a process called osseointegration will occur as the implants fuse with the bone. After healing, abutments are attached, and your custom denture is designed and secured in place. While the process takes longer than traditional dentures, the results are well worth the investment.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

a woman deep in thought

Most healthy adults who are missing teeth are good candidates for implant dentures, especially those who are frustrated with loose or uncomfortable traditional dentures. To qualify, you’ll need to be healthy enough for minor oral surgery and free of untreated cavities or gum disease. You’ll also need sufficient jawbone density—removable implant dentures require less bone support, while fixed dentures need more. If necessary, we can coordinate bone grafting to prepare your smile for implants.
